Guide to Out-Patient Surgery

Before Surgery

  • Your surgery will be scheduled by your physician's office.
  • Our Center staff will contact you prior to your surgery date to obtain information, answer any questions you might have and give you the time to arrive at the surgery center.
  • Please arrive at the Center one hour prior to your scheduled surgery or the time given to you by the Surery Center staff.
  • The average stay at the center is 4-5 hours.
  • Lab tests may be required and will be arranged by your doctor in advance.

If the Patient is a Child

  • One, or both parents (guardians) must remain at the center while the child is in the facility.
  • A parent (guardian) must sign the durgical consent for surgery if the patient is under 18 years of age on the day of the surgery.
  • Guardians must bring proof of guardianship on the day of surgery; otherwise surgery will be postponed. If the patient is a mentally disabled adult. the legal guardian must make arrangements for signing the consent on the day of surgery.

The Day of Surgery

  • Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing and flat shoes.
  • Bring a picture ID, insurance cards, Medicare cards and any medical information.
  • Be sure to have an adult present to drive you home. You cannot take public transportation.
  • Leave valuables at home (rings, watches, jewelry, etc)
  • Do not wear contact lenses, makeup or nail polish.
  • Please do not bring small children who are not having surgery.
  • Know the names and doses of any medication you are taking.
  • Please limit the number to (2) friends or family members who accompany you to the center.

Recovery at the Center

  • Each person responds differently to surgery and the effect of anesthesia. It is important to tell the nurse how you feel and any special concerns. At the time of your discharge, you will be considered "home ready" meaning you are able to return home to rest.
  • Home-care instruction will be explained and you will be given a copy of these instructions prior to deing discharged. You may be given a prescription inf your physician feels medications are necessary.

Recovery at Home

  • To hasten your recovery, it is recommended that you rest comfortable as soon as you get home. Follow your home care instructions and call your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Center personnel will call you the day following your surgical procedure to inquire as to your recovery and answer any questions you may have.

Wait at least 24 hours aftering arriving home to

  • Drive or operate any equipment.
  • Sign any important papers or make important decisions.
  • Drink alcoholic beverages.

Fees and Finacnial Arrangements

  • DeAnza Surgery Cneter charges a facility fee for each surgical procedure performed by your surgeon. You will recieve a separate bill from your surgeon, anesthesiologist (if one is needed for your procedure) and any other professional srvices you may receive while at the center (pathology, radiology)
  • Patients with insurance are asked to pay their co-insurance and any deductible as a deposit on the day or surgery. The center bills your insurance comapny as a courtesy. However, any balance due is your responsibility.
  • DeAnza Surgery Center accepts cash, check, Visa and MasterCard

The Day Before Surgery

  • DeAnza Surgery Center will attempt to contact you by phone prior to your selected scheduled surgery procedure dat to confirm tha appointment time.
  • If you do not hear from the center - Please call the day before your surgery or procedure (951) 320-7799
  • If you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify your doctor and the DeAnza Surgery Center as soon as possible.
